Whistler Feb 2025

We are taking our first grandma trip. Andrew & Erin chose a ski trip to Whistler in British Columbia, Canada. We flew from Detroit to Seattle to Vancouver and had a white knuckle drive to Whistler.

The long trip was worth the time. The beauty of the snow-covered mountains, glaciers, trees and landscape showed God’s power and joy in His creation.

The first morning, we woke to discover that we could ski out of our condo to the bottom of the mountain for breakfast. We continued the day by skiing on Blackcombe and Whistler Mountains. I’ve never skied such long runs. Our aching muscles were relieved by a fire at the condo and dinner at the Nicklaus Golf Club.

Here are some pictures from our travels and the first day of skiing.

Our second full day was spent exploring the town and exploring the town and exploring the town. We had a leisurely morning and an amazing local lunch at the Hunter Gatherer. We found remnants of the Olympic Park area and lots of interesting shops. We enjoyed the hot tub at the condo and met some new friends from the Detroit area. We used the local shuttle bus to get around and found a nice dinner spot in the village. At the DubhLinn Gate Irish Pub, we ordered a Spice Bag. This was described as Chinese takeaway food made with curry and jalapeños from Ireland. We laughed that it was being served in an Irish pub in Canada. 🤣

Our third day was spent skiing. We skied out of our condo onto a gondola to the top of Blackcombe Mountain. From there, we took the glass bottom on the Peak to Peak gondola to the top of Whistler Mountain. The clear skies and beautiful scenery were breathtaking…. Or maybe it was the amount of skiing that took our breath away. Either way, it was heavenly on the slopes.

We came back to the hot tub for some chill time before going back for a Mexican dinner. The night ended with a cozy fire.

I keep thinking about my mom and it has been so wonderful to talk about her on the Grandma Trip. I feel her presence and wonder if she’s watching our family joy.

Our fourth day at Whistler (and third day of skiing) was spent on both Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains. We skied and skied and skied until we couldn’t ski any more. Our app showed over 18,000 vertical feet and close to 30 miles of skiing. We were rewarded with a trip to the hot tub followed by dinner at the local High Mountain Brewhouse.

You might notice in some of the pictures while waiting for the chairlift, a bird can be seen on Erin’s ski pole, on John’s fingers and on a skiers helmet.

The beauty of the area continues to amaze us and remind us of God”s power and glory.

Our last full day at Whistler was spent exploring the Creekside and boundary areas. We don’t have an agenda except to see the beauty of God’s creation.

We went in the hot tub and plan for a nap this afternoon since we have an early flight in the morning.
